The Lerarenkaart Goes Digital: Smarter & Simpler

Who Owns The Zebra
The Challenge
Klasse, the independent editorial team within the Flemish government, supports teachers with initiatives like the Lerarenkaart—a physical card offering discounts at museums, shops, theaters, and more.

While the physical card was a success, it remained an offline experience, which came with some limitations. Klasse saw an opportunity to expand its reach and make benefits more accessible to teachers across Flanders.
To achieve this, we collaborated to design and build a smart, user-friendly app that would:
Put all benefits in teachers' pockets, anytime, anywhere.
Make discovering and using offers easier than ever.
Provide a more engaging, personalized experience.

Our approach
To make the transition from a physical card to a digital app seamless and valuable, we focused on personalization, usability, and engagement. Our approach was rooted in a human-centered design process, ensuring that the app would feel intuitive for teachers of allages and digital proficiency levels.
1. Seamless Login
Simple itsme® integration, minimal data required, and no need to log inrepeatedly.
2. Guided Onboarding
Clear explanations help teachers personalize their experience.
3. Smart Personalization
Benefits are tailored based on favorites, subjects, and location via a backend-driven algorithm.
4. Instant Access for New Teachers
A preview mode lets new teachers explore the app without logging in. Once their credentials are available, access is granted automatically.
5. Powerful Search & Reviews
A quick search function and user reviews help teachers find and rate benefits easily.
5. Offline Access
Benefits are available anytime, even without an internet connection.
The impact
The goal was ambitious: achieve a 68% adoption rate among teachers. However, within just
one month of launch—and with strong communication efforts from Klasse—the app
surpassed 100,000 downloads, reaching this milestone faster than expected.
