Exploring app development for Apple Vision Pro

Apple Vision Pro is hot in the tech world and beyond. The innovative headset that unlocks interactive experiences isn't available in Europe yet, but Who Owns The Zebra was able to get their/our hands on it.  Discover how we plan on developing apps for Apple Vision Pro, and how you can request your demo.
Who Owns The Zebra
What is Apple Vision Pro?
Apple Vision Pro is a headset that projects digital content onto reality. It uses its own cameras to capture the wearer’s surroundings and then overlays a virtual layer onto them – a concept called ‘spatial computing’. You can control Apple Vision Pro with hand gestures, by moving your eyes, or with voice commands.
Immersing you in a mixed reality, Apple Vision Pro headset combines augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).
Augmented reality (AR) enhances real-world objects with computer-generated elements. For instance, Instagram or TikTok filters can be applied to your own photos or videos.
Virtual reality (VR) transports you to an entirely digital world, giving you the illusion of being physically present in an online environment. For example, you can play games where you embody a character navigating a fantasy world.
Mixed reality (MR) integrates physical and digital objects seamlessly within your surroundings, allowing real-time interaction. For instance, you can virtually place a new wardrobe in your bedroom to see if it matches your interior.

Impact on web and app development
With Apple Vision Pro, we're pioneering a whole new realm of digital experiences. Never before have apps and websites been this interactive. Content isn't confined to the web, and control extends far beyond touchscreens and a computer mouse. As functionalities and user experiences evolve, so do app and web development.
Since Apple’s mixed-reality headset was launched, we've been continuously uncovering new possibilities to take interactive experiences even further. We tackle each project via a structured approach consisting of four key steps:
Understand (analysis)
First off, we dive deep to figure out if the project is ready for mixed reality. We carefully lay out the digital puzzle and weigh whether Apple Vision Pro is the right fit. We tune into the wants and needs of users to determine whether crafting a dynamic experience is the way to go. If it's a go, we're all in.
Shape (UX and UI)
Operating Apple Vision Pro is all about seamless, intuitive control—whether it's through hand gestures, eye movements, or voice commands. With its screen expanding into a 3D canvas larger than life, the world becomes your playground. To ensure effortless interaction between the physical and digital realms and to deliver top-notch comfort, we pour extra effort into crafting the user interface (UI) and enhancing the user experience (UX).
Proof of Concept (development)
Once the roadmap is in place, we start developing a minimal viable product (MVP). We initially focus on integrating the core functionalities that form the foundation of the solution, and then gradually expand from there. We ask users for feedback and carefully assess what adjustments are needed to refine the first version to perfection.
Repeat (testing)
Having taken the feedback to heart, we assess the impact of the improvements we made. Through gradual adjustments, our product continues to evolve.
Exploring opportunities with Apple Vision Pro
Apple Vision Pro opens doors across various industries and app categories. Here's a glimpse of what's possible:

Interior design: walk around in your home and instantly see what a new piece of furniture, plant, or paint colour will look like.
Shopping: try on clothes from the comfort of your sofa or virtually browse the aisles of a supermarket to fill your cart.
Engineering: watch instruction videos while working on something, or visualize complex technical diagrams and data on a large scale.
Productivity: even with everyone working remotely, you can still gather with your teammates in a virtual meeting room.
Entertainment: thanks to the larger-than-life screen and interactive features, Apple Vision Pro offers plenty of opportunities for games, 3D videos, and creative hobbies like painting.
